Ideas in Bloom...
Blue Butterfly Digital Designs was started in 2025 to provide quality and affordable graphic and web design to the public. The idea behind us started in 2023 when Tera first started her program classes for digital design and through the hard work and support of her mom and stepdad, Blue Butterfly was born. What once was a dream is now a reality, and we are excited to offer our services and creativity to whatever meets our clients needs.
The Story Behind Blue Butterfly
Did you know that 1 in 4 women experience a miscarriage? Or that 1 in 8 women will experience stillbirth or infant loss? Blue Butterfly’s name came from Tera’s late son, Johnathan Ross. JR was born on March 1, 2021, and passed away a day later on March 2. Since losing him, Tera has always associated blue butterflies and daffodils with him. Daffodils mark the start of spring and new beginnings and are the birth flower of March. Butterflies are often associated with the little ones who have left us too soon. The community of parents who have lost a child gave Tera a ton of support in the early days of her grief and through her pregnancy with her rainbow baby, Colt. She always knew she wanted to do something to help keep JR’s memory alive and so she combined her passion for digital design and JR’s memory to create Blue Butterfly Digital Design.

GRAPHIC & WEB DESIGNER
Thomas Rhett once sang, “Ain’t it funny how life changes?” and I can’t think of any other quote to describe my life so far. I grew up in Washington state where my sons, JR and Colt were born. I followed my mom, stepdad and sister out to Charleston, SC in 2025 when my life changed again. My life has changed many times and through all that change, new beginnings started. With those new beginnings, I went back to college and discovered just how much I love digital design. I am currently a senior design student at Grand Canyon University and will graduate in 2027 with a Bachelor’s in Digital Design with an emphasis in web design. I maintain a 3.91 GPA, have been named to the Dean’s and President’s Lists and have even been inducted into the National Society for Collegiate Scholars. Throughout all those life changes, my passions stayed strong and my love for design and creating things grew bigger. While I am specializing in website design, I have a strong passion for graphic design as well and love to create all kinds of graphics for print and digital platforms.

WEB DEVELOPER
Having been an "Air Force brat," I moved around a lot as a kid. After my dad retired, I put down roots in Washington State for 35 years. Before meeting my husband, I went back to college full-time for computer science. As a single mom to two amazing girls, sometimes juggling three jobs to make ends meet, I got my degree and started my eight-year career in software engineering.
A few years ago, we decided to pack up and move across the country to Charleston, South Carolina. It was me, my husband, our 11-year-old, and our dog, Tucker, on this big adventure, and it's allowed us to build a really full and great life here. My husband took a civil engineering consulting job. He loved it so much that he recently started Coy Engineering Services. When Tera followed us out here, Derek hired her for admin work. That really got Tera and me thinking, turning "Blue Butterfly" from a pipe dream into a real plan. Teaming up with the most talented artist I know was a no-brainer.
JR's Story
In 2020, Tera found out she was pregnant again after having a miscarriage the month prior. She and her then husband were so excited to welcome their son into the world. They chose the name Johnathan Ross after her then husband’s older brother who was stillborn. They thought it would be a great way to honor his memory. Their lives shifted upside down though when she went in for her 20-week ultrasound to find out that some complications with his kidneys and bladder had occurred. Over the following month and a half Tera would drive an hour north to see a specialist to place shunts to drain JR’s bladder so his lungs would continue to develop. Everything changed though when an infection sent her into preterm labor. Johnathan Ross was born via emergency cesarean section at 9:04 am on March 1, 2021, at 27 weeks. He was a fighter and whenever the doctors thought he was nearing the end he would prove them wrong. On March 2, his body gave out and he passed away in the arms of his mother. JR taught his parents what it means to fight and showed them a new kind of love they never knew before. Today, he is survived by his grandparents, aunts and uncles, parents and his little brother Colt who shows love just like JR.
